International student exchange: Finland Helsinki

FICO studenten kunnen op buitenlandse uitwisseling naar andere osteopathie opleidingen. Deze studenten gingen naar Helsinki Finland om de internationale week daar mee te maken aan de Metropolia university aan de osteopathie faculteit. Ze volgen de lessen, de klinische stages en uiteraard ook het Finse studentenleven!

Zaterdagavond gaat de Fico naschoolse activiteit 'El Toro Loco' door, Restaurante y Tapas, Olé!
Na de 'Maskara' show voor jaar 1,2 & 3 en P1 met afterparty is het dit weekend de beurt aan jaar 4, 5 & 6 en P2 & 3. In de vooravond staat het Tapas Restaurante 'El Toro Loco' op het programma. Role of Mechanical Factors in the Morphology of the Primate Cerebral Cortex
The convoluted cortex of primates is instantly recognizable in its principal morphologic features, yet puzzling in its complex finer structure. Various hypotheses have been proposed about the mechanisms of its formation. Based on the analysis of databases of quantitative architectonic and connection data for primate prefrontal cortices, we offer support for the hypothesis that tension exerted by corticocortical connections is a significant factor in shaping the cerebral cortical landscape. Moreover, forces generated by cortical folding influence laminar morphology, and appear to have a previously unsuspected impact on cellular migration during cortical development. The evidence for a significant role of mechanical factors in cortical morphology opens the possibility of constructing computational models of cortical develoment based on physical principles. Such models are particularly relevant for understanding the relationship of cortical morphology to the connectivity of normal brains, and structurally altered brains in diseases of developmental origin, such as schizophrenia and autism.

Osteopathie en lage rug pijn

Opereren en frequent behandelen zijn niet aangewezen bij lage rug pijn.
Non-specific low back pain has become a major public health problem worldwide. The lifetime prevalence of low back pain is reported to be as high as 84%, and the prevalence of chronic low back pain is about 23%, with 11-12% of the population being disabled by low back pain. Mechanical factors, such as lifting and carrying, probably do not have a major pathogenic role, but genetic constitution is important. History taking and clinical examination are included in most diagnostic guidelines, but the use of clinical imaging for diagnosis should be restricted. The mechanism of action of many treatments is unclear, and effect sizes of most treatments are low. Both patient preferences and clinical evidence should be taken into account for pain management, but generally self-management, with appropriate support, is recommended and surgery and overtreatment should be avoided.

Aantijgingen MSc osteopathy gegrond of niet?

Onlangs werden opnieuw aantijgingen de wereld ingestuurd mbt. de MSc osteopathy die op Fico aangeboden wordt.
Deze aantijgingen weerleggen is echter zeer eenvoudig.
- De MSc is erkend door de deelstaat Saxon Duitsland en erkend in Duitsland. Daardoor ben je gerechtigd de titel te dragen en te voeren in Vlaanderen. Vragen mbt. de accreditatie kan je richten aan DIU.
- De info op de fico website werd zorgvuldig afgetoetst met het departement onderwijs - afdeling hogeronderwijsbeleid. Vragen kan je richten aan het departement hoger onderwijs.
Fico investeert tijd & energie in kwalitatief onderwijs en de verdere ontplooing van het beroep, niet in het formuleren & verspreiden van aantijgingen.

Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Science invites Fico students to participate in the International week.
The Faculty of Welfare and Human Functioning welcomes you to participate in its third International Week from 5 – 9 March, 2012.
The Faculty has successfully organized International Weeks in the previous years where the students and teachers from our partner universities have had a chance to exchange knowledge and experiences in form of lectures, workshops and seminars.
Fico participated in the previous International week and recommends this experience!
The main theme of the International Week 2012 is Active Aging.
Fico is a member of OsEAn and as a student of an OsEAN member school you are welcome to apply to participate in this week.

MSc inschrijvingen zijn gestart

Lift je osteopathische kennis en vaardigheden naar een nog hoger niveau, schrijf je in voor de MSc en surf de golf van de toekomst van de osteopathie.
In september gaat de eerste academische MSc osteopathy op Fico van start. De opleiding staat garant voor een hoog niveau en internationale top docenten.
Deze MSc wordt ingericht voor de Fico docenten, maar als collega willen we je niet in de kou laten staan.
Om de kwaliteit van de opleiding te garanderen hanteert Fico een numerus fixus / clausus, wacht niet te lang en verzeker je plaats.
De opleiding bestaat uit 12 seminaries die over 3 semesters gespreid worden.

Deze MSc opleiding van de DIU (Dresden International University) wordt door OSD (Osteopathie Schule Deutschland) gegeven op Fico, dat scheelt je verplaatsingen en onkosten. Daarnaast heeft Fico voor je verkregen dat de opleiding in het Engels wordt gegeven. De prijs is bedongen op 6990 euro, all in. Fico heeft voor je een gespreide betaling voorzien in 2 schijven en je kan gebruik maken van je ondernemingsschapsportefeuille waardoor de overheid tot 50% van je inschrijvingsgeld bijpast. Zo geniet je vanaf 3495€ voor 3 semesters opleiding van top niveau. Je verkrijgt een factuur zodat je je kosten kan inbrengen. Fico heeft bekomen dat je je Fico thesis kan gebruiken voor je MSc thesis, deze wordt gescreend en indien nodig bijgestuurd.
