Year 1, 2 & 3: Structural 1, 2 & 3

Structural therapy above all is a manual therapy. The osteopath exclusively uses both hands for the clinical investigation as well as for the treatment. Goal is to determine and treat any loss of movement in the human body.

There are three academic years. Each of these years include 9 weekend courses, 3 recap days, 9 morning practice sessions and dissection courses. A weekend course starts on Friday at 9h30 with a morning practice session, followed by the courses from 14h until 19h. Saturday courses are from 8h30 until 19h00; Sunday courses from 8h30 until 12h30.

During this 3 structural years all manual mobilizing and manipulative techniques are taught. In case a joint loses its ability to move it will certainly create one or more compensations in the surrounding tissue or joints. Because of the united character of the bones and muscles this will not only connect all joints, but also influence each other.

Our college is known for introducing, as the first college, the use of the “short lever technique”. We continue to teach this short lever technique because of the great accuracy and mainly because of the enlarged safety for the patient. Next to our own trained teachers, practice courses are given by tutors who teach at officially recognized British schools as well. The courses are supported by translated manuals, with illustrations of each technique. We choose to give maximum attention to practice. All manipulation techniques are on DVD.

The “motion” in the approach concept of osteopathy takes place in three areas. This is why the structural years can be combined with a cranio-visceral year. At Fico you can determine your own study speed & weight.

Based on the information from the anamnesis and the clinical investigation, the osteopath will list the complaints in the three mentioned motion systems. Thus he retrieves a logical explanation of the lesion situated in the totality of the individual, i.e. the holistic approach!
